Applying for a UK Visa
Many people, including those travelling on a Chinese passport, need a visa to enter Britain. This section of our website tells you more about how to apply. For comprehensive information about applying for British visas see the UK Visas website www.ukvisas.gov.uk.
Do I need a visa?
If you are travelling on a standard Chinese passport: You will need a visa for the UK. This includes those who are transiting through a UK port, even if you do not pass through UK immigration.
If you are travelling on an Official or Diplomatic Chinese Passport: You need a UK visa to enter the UK, but you do not require a visa to transit a UK port.

Where do I apply?
You can apply for a visa in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou or Chongqing.
The UK Visa Application Centres in the catchment area of the British Embassy
in Beijing handle visa applications from people living in northern, central and
western China.
Residents of Shanghai, Zhejiang and Jiangsu should apply at the UK Visa Application
Centres in the consular catchment area of the British Consulate-General in Shanghai.
Residents of Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and Hainan should apply at the UK Visa
Application Centres in the consular catchment area of the British Consulate-General
in Guangzhou.
Residents of Chongqing Municipality, and the provinces of Sichuan, Guizhou, and
Yunnan should submit their applications at the UK Visa Application Centre in
Chongqing or Chengdu.

How do I apply?
The procedures are the same whether applying in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou or Chongqing, and the standards we use to assess each visa application are exactly the same.
